Coventry City have confirmed that Cardiff City have joined Bristol City in making a written offer for influential defender Richard Keogh.

Talks are underway with the talismanic Keogh over an extension to his Sky Blues deal but in the meantime his displays in adversity last season have clearly not gone unnoticed.

‘We have had a written offer from Cardiff, as we did from Bristol City last week, and phone calls from a couple of other clubs in the Championship inquiring about Richard’s availability and what our thoughts are on the matter,’ development director Steve Waggott told the Coventry Telegraph.

‘I have said to them that at the moment we are in contractual discussions with him and his agent regarding extending his contract and keeping him at Coventry.

‘Our thoughts are to see where we can get to from a Coventry perspective because we would love him – subject to the manager’s discussions with him – to take on the captaincy and lead the team back to the Championship.’
