A wholesale summer of changes to the Coventry City playing squad is on the cards, lifting of the transfer embargo permitting, with manager Steven Pressley reportedly telling eight players currently under contract that they do not feature in his plans for next season.

The occasional eyebrow will be raised at the inclusion of Jordan Clarke, Cody McDonald and Steven Jennings on the list but it is only Jennings and William Edjenguele who could say they contributed positively to the Sky Blues 2012/13 season as they were regulars under Mark Robins as City climbed the League One table and reached the JPT Area Final.

Clarke may go on to better things (but would surely have been a target for clubs higher up by now) and McDonald could find himself banging in the goals elsewhere but Pressley’s remaining senior players provide a solid base.

They will be augmented by a number of youngsters stepping up which leaves one final part of the formula, the signings that the manager is able to make.
