League One: Promoted Sides Aiming High

Bradford City enjoyed an incredible season with two trips to Wembley culminating in a play-off win against Aidy Boothroyd’s Northampton Town.

That marked the rebirth of the Bantams after a hugely difficult period and joint-chairman Julian Rhodes told the local Telegraph & Argus that they are in good shape to challenge at the right end of League One.

‘The majority of wage bills in League One last season were under £2m,’ he said. ‘We`re going to be over that.’

£2m is the figure quoted for Coventry City’s budget next season.

Port Vale have been busy in the transfer market and have also sealed a new sponsorship deal for the forthcoming campaign.

Former Sky Blues boss Micky Adams is in charge at Port Vale and one of his former players Rob Page is also part of the coaching staff.

‘We were one of the fittest teams in League Two and this year we’ll be one of the fittest teams in League One,’ Page told The Sentinel.

Gillingham were League Two champions and boss Martin Allen, having snapped up Antonio German, may now pursue City’s Cody McDonald after he was told he could leave by Steven Pressley.

‘We want to get going as soon as possible, bring it on, bring it all on,’ said a bullish Allen after seeing the fixtures for the new season.

‘There won`t be any fear from us, that`s for sure.’

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has also been active in the transfer market with a number of signings including winger David Worrall from Bury and Aldershot striker Danny Hylton.

‘Our squad is really starting to take shape and I am delighted,’ said Evans.
