In a five short months Sky Blues forgotten man James McPake has achieved iconic status in the green side of Edinburgh and is making the headlines in Scotland’s capital.

He thinks nothing of putting his body on the line as he prepares for this Saturday’s Scottish Cup final with cross city rivals Hearts. The on-loan defender suffered a broken back at Coventry City to add to the various other serious injuries he has had in his time and it is fitting to see him lead out Hibernian at Hampden Park.

Then at Livingston he and Stevie Craig talked of starting a window-cleaning business after they had finished playing and it is something McPake has never had far from his mind due to the number of serious injuries he has had.

For Hibs long suffering fans McPake has almost on his own stopped the Hibees downward drift to Division One and pushed them to a cup final with their bitter rivals which is gripping all non old-firm fans and should if possible be watched.

Hibs want to make the loan move permanent in the summer and if that happens we wish him all the best as James always gave 100% for the Sky Blues and if he stayed and was injury free what a partnership he could form with Richard Keogh should Martin Cranie leave the club.
