Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is wanted on a season-long loan deal by Wigan Athletic according to reports on Thursday.

The former Sky Blues star missed out on this summer’s World Cup after more injury problems while on loan at West Brom last season but is fit again and raring to go.

With first-team chances hard to come by at Anfield, a loan move to the JJB Stadium would benefit Kirkland, and possibly the Sky Blues too.

Such a deal would almost certainly end Wigan’s interest in Marton Fulop, the loan star who Coventry want to sign from Tottenham on a permanent basis.
