Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws was left shaking his head after their 1-0 home defeat by Coventry City on Saturday.

‘Talk about getting your pockets pinched,’ he said after Clinton Morrison’s goal secured all three points for the Sky Blues.

‘It was certainly that today.

‘I’m disappointed for the players because they responded well from last week’s defeat.

‘At times we played it well and had umpteen chances to put the ball in the net, but failed miserably.

‘You’ve got to take your chances and certainly in that second half they took their chance.’

Most visiting fans would dispute Laws’ reading of the game. The Sky Blues came under some concerted late pressure but it is hard to recall the ‘umpteen’ chances he refers to.

City were not a great deal better than their hosts but took the game by the scruff of the neck after half-time and got their reward with a lovely goal.

‘We came here with a gameplan,’ said Chris Coleman.

‘We did to Sheffield Wednesday what’s happened to us so many times this season.

‘We never really attempted to play pretty football. We’ve not won here apparently for a long, long time and we said let’s go there and do to them what’s been done to us week in, week out.

‘I’m as proud of my players as I was when we won at Birmingham.

‘In terms of character and the players not going missing I thought we were fantastic.’
