The Sky Blues picked up a late point when Don Hutchison was adjudged to have been fouled in the box and got up to score the resulting penalty.

Gregorz Rasiak looked to have won the game for Southampton when he opened the scoring nine minutes from time.

Asked about the penalty, Saints boss George Burley said afterwards: ‘Our players said there was not much contact and there didn’t look much from where I was standing either.’

His opposite number Micky Adams though commented: ‘I thought it was a penalty

‘I am disappointed we did not come away with all three points.

‘We were the better side for phases in the game but lacked a cutting edge.’
