Micky Adams feels his Coventry City side are well equipped to challenge at the right end of the Championship this season after a positive end to the last campaign and a fruitful summer in the transfer market.

He told The Mirror: ‘Every manager is optimistic going into a new season but I really feel we can be competitive. There can be no excuses. We have gone out and spent a bit of money and got some talented players.

‘We have prepared well. Last season we didn’t get into the new stadium straight away and we had to settle in. Not this time.

‘There is a feelgood factor about Coventry City now. People are not talking about the debt for a change, they’re talking about the team.’

The Sky Blues end their pre-season build-up on Tuesday night when two equal strength sides are sent to fixtures against Hinckley United and Kidderminster Harriers.
