Having begun the slow progress of turning around Coventry City’s fortunes during his short time at the Ricoh Arena, Mark Robins left Coventry City a year ago this week to take on the job of Huddersfield Town manager.
The Sky Blues gave permission ‘reluctantly’ to speak to the man they had only appointed themselves in September 2012 after Andy Thorn’s sacking and the subsequent winless spell of caretaker Richard Shaw.
‘We are just hoping that when he weighs up his options and opportunities, he will see the great progress to date and the support he has from fans and management alike, coupled with the potential in Coventry, and decide to stay,’ said chief executive Tim Fisher at the time.
Looking back at that quote, although 31,000+ had come out in force for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area final, Robins will feel more than justified in his decision as Huddersfield occupy a mid-table berth in the Championship and spend money on the likes of Nakhi Wells from Bradford while City no longer reside in their home town.
To some extent the Sky Blues can say they have moved on as well with the appointment of Steven Pressley to instil a longer-term ethos into the club in which academy graduates have a big chance of becoming first team players and everyone knows the kind of style and system that the first XI employs.
