The transfer window opens in 27 days and Vital Coventry is bringing you a new rumour everyday until Christmas Eve concerning Sky Blues past and present or potential new signings.

5th December: Without a club since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer, veteran defender Gary Breen is set to take the first steps towards management with a player/coach role at League Two Barnet.

The 34-year-old has been training with the Bees in recent days and when he becomes eligible to play for them in January, will make Barnet his ninth professional club.

‘He comes to us bringing everything that we’ve been missing on the field,’ said Bees boss Paul Fairclough.

‘We need real leadership and he’ll bring us leadership. He also brings experience, something else that we’ve been lacking.

‘I’m extremely excited about bringing a player of his ability and quality on board.

‘He hasn’t played for a while and will be working on his fitness this week.’

Capped over 50 times by the Republic of Ireland, Breen made 146 league appearances for Coventry City between 1997 and 2002, leaving at the end of his contract just prior to the World Cup in Japan and South Korea.
