Livingston captain James McPake will become a Coventry City player next year after signing a pre-contract agreement with the Sky Blues.

If a fee is agreed between the two clubs, the defender could arrive in January.

McPake, 24 this weekend, came through the ranks at Livingston where his displays have caught the eye of clubs both in the SPL and in England.

Along with team-mate Dave Mackay he was the subject of interest in the summer, chairman Angelo Massone telling the club website at the time: ‘The clubs asked me ‘how much do you want?’ but I said ‘I don’t want the money, I want the players.’

So, not a signing to grip Sky Blues fans but another positive example that the club are pursuing a well thought out, long-term policy of bringing in players hungry to improve and at the right age.
