A third goal in as many league games on Saturday took Leon Best to nine for the league season to date and the in-form Ireland international is closing on a landmark that Coventry City strikers have struggled to reach in recent seasons.
Top league goalscorers in the past three years have been Clinton Morrison in 2008/09 (10), Michael Mifsud 2007/08 (10) and Dele Adebola in 2006/07 (8).
Now, for the first time since Gary McSheffrey in 2005/06 do the Sky Blues have a genuine goal threat up front.
Best’s excellent form does highlight two problem areas of course.
Firstly, with Morrison going through a dry spell and Sammy Clingan out injured, goals from elsewhere in the team are hard to find at present.
Secondly, with Best’s contract expiring next summer, a move away in January begins to look more and more likely.
