Still all to play for

City boss Andy Thorn was pleased with the way his players played through the 90 minutes last night at Chesterfield as they get their fitness levels up. He made just the one change with Roy O’Donovan replacing Freddy Eastwood on 75 minutes.

Speaking to the club’s website he explained, ‘Chesterfield changed their system a bit in the second half and we could have done the same to combat that but it’s not about results. I wanted the players to get tired legs and get used to battling through difficult periods. That was important tonight.’

The Sky Blues boss also made it clear that the teams he has selected so far are no indication of the starting eleven for the season opener with Leicester City. He made it clear that for the players it is still all to play for to make that starting spot.

Pleasing last night were the quality performances from Cyrus Christie and Conor Thomas on the right side and a rampaging Chris Hussey on the left who delivered a number of quality crosses. Joe Murphy did everything expected of him and looks a good replacement for Keiron Westwood.

This Saturday Norwich City visit the Ricoh Arena for City’s last pre-season game before all eyes turn to August 6.
