Stay away from that trapdoor!

Coventry City could go into Wednesday night’s game against Queens Park Rangers in the bottom three of the Championship if results go against them on Tuesday.

Wins for Sheffield Wednesday at home to West Brom and Preston North End away to Leicester would do the damage and really set the alarm bells ringing at the Ricoh.

Such a slip would of course see the usual comments trotted out about a ‘wake-up’ call but only better performances and results will boost the mood of the fans now.

Chris Coleman’s threat over contracts seems to have had little or no effect but unless a host of loan signings come in before Wednesday, it looks as if we will have to rely on the same players who have dragged us down to this point and seen off another manager along the way.

One bright spot is the upcoming return of Colin Hawkins. The Irish defender has been badly missed this season, his no-nonsense style just what City have needed at crucial times.

As a latecomer to the professional ranks, Hawkins was a breath of fresh air last season, a player who was grateful to get a second chance and showed it in every game he played.
