‘Did we play well against Coventry? No, not particularly, we had to hang in there and get the result we need, but we`re in the play-offs.’
The verdict of Reading manager Brian McDermott after Saturday’s goalless draw at the Ricoh Arena secured a top six place for his side but also ensured a positive end to the season for the Sky Blues.
Against a team who could be in the Premier League next season, City were forceful from the start and created a host of good chances as they continued their positive, attacking form under Andy Thorn.
McDermott continued: “We knew it would be tough. We played with a little bit of tension, we had a couple of chances, but Coventry played really well.
“I didn`t want to go into next week`s game having lost here and being looking over the shoulder.
“The dressing room was a little bit flat afterwards because we have played better than that, but the result was the most important thing.”
