Prenton Park, home of Tranmere Rovers, is the latest stopping point on Coventry City`s tour of League One as the two sides go head-to-head on Saturday afternoon.
The Sky Blues were only meant to be at this level for one season and their early season results have indicated that that will be the case. Unfortunately for the fans it is League Two rather than the Championship that looks the most likely destination at this stage.
All of the candidates interviewed for the vacant manager`s post in midweek however made it clear they feel the squad put in place over the summer is good enough to be challenging at the right end of the table. To date only in the cup win over Birmingham City and for short spells in their league games have City`s players shown that to be true.
‘Moore the merrier’
The next permanent manager of the football club is likely to be on Merseyside whether he is patrolling the technical area (caretaker Richard Shaw) or taking in the game from the stands (Phil Brown, Richard Money, Mr X) with an appointment not due to be made until after the back-to-back away games against Tranmere and Shrewsbury.
Rovers themselves, with a manager who knows a thing or two about getting a side ready for the rigours of the lower leagues, have made a storming start and Ronnie Moore, while wary of a lack of strength in depth to his squad, is in upbeat mood.
“We have got good players here,” he told the Liverpool Post “and if we can keep the squad together, I don`t think we`re going to be too far off at the end of the season.”
