Brentford manager Uwe Rosler could clearly be heard on the touchline at Sixfields on Sunday urging his two strikers to work together and press Coventry City’s defenders.
After a bright opening spell from the Sky Blues, Clayton Donaldson and Will Grigg did just that and the home side found their options limited to looking for openings for Leon Clarke and Callum Wilson fron balls played over the top.
‘It took us 10 or 15 minutes to realise that we had to defend from the top,’ said Rosler.
‘We planned to do that all week. Coventry struggled to get their game going and we looked good on the counter.’
With plenty of managers able to watch City in the flesh (Sunday again saw an informal League One bosses club set up at Sixfields) it was inevitable that teams would work out one way to stop the Sky Blues but what hampered Steven Pressley on Sunday was the lack of options he had at his disposal with which to turn things around.
