The early front-runners for the vacant Coventry City manager’s job have been giving their thoughts to the press.

Former boss Eric Black, now number two to Steve Bruce at Birmingham City, said: ‘It’s difficult for me to speak about something I’m not aware of but it is flattering to be considered a candidate for the Coventry job – if that is the case.

‘However, this job I have got now, the one I am actively working away at with Birmingham, is what I am concentrating on and more than happy doing.

‘I’m trying to help get the club back to where it belongs – the Premiership.’

Ex-Sky Blues academy director Richard Money is now in charge at Walsall.

He commented: ‘It’s speculation, and as Ive said before, when teams are doing well the players, and sometimes the manager, is subject to this sort of speculation.

‘There is nothing I can do to stop it and I don’t really see why I should want to. Its very flattering to be linked with a championship club.’

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson has said that his priority is the Ashton Gate club, while a source close to bookies’ favourite Gary McAllister was quoted as saying: ‘Gary is ready to return to the game and is therefore open to offers.’
