On this day: Big Ron’s rant!

11 years ago today, 25th March 1996 and Coventry City lost a vital relegation battle live on Sky away to Southampton to leave them in dire straits at the foot of the Premier League.

After the match, manager Ron Atkinson blew his top at a suggestion from TV pundit (and former assistant to Atkinson at Aston Villa) Andy Gray that City lacked commitment.

Great TV followed with Ron almost coming through the screen as he ranted at Gray and frontman Richard Keys.

Another defeat followed at Tottenham before a shock win over Liverpool led to a late revival and survival once again on the final day.
