Neil Redfearn made no attempt to hide behind the award of two penalties against his Leeds United side as they slipped to defeat at bottom club Coventry on Tuesday night.

Gary McSheffrey kept his cool on both occasions to secure a vital win for the Sky Blues which takes them off the foot of the Championship and potentially to within a point of safety should Portsmouth’s administration and points deduction be confirmed.

The stoppage time winner was just reward for a positive display from the home side and Redfearn, jeeered by Leeds fan for his substitution of Ross McCormack, made no excuses.

‘They were both penalties from my point of view,’ he said.

‘We didn’t get about them, we didn’t react to second balls and we didn’t compete well enough.’
