Coventry City enjoyed some stoppage time joy of their own on Tuesday night as Gary McSheffrey kept his cool to score a second penalty of the night and earn a fully deserved win over Leeds United at the Ricoh Arena.

The Sky Blues got their just rewards for an excellent second-half display in which they created a host of chances and drove forward at every opportunity, especially after Leeds signalled their intentions to settle for a draw by taking off the dangerous McCormack.

Alex Nimely’s pace and strength earned both penalties but he was brought into the game at every opportunity by Clive Platt while Norwood and Deegan won the midfield battle and City’s central defenders were their usual determined selves.

The roar that followed McSheffrey’s winner and the final whistle was followed by a further one when the other Championship scores came through.

Defeats for Doncaster and Forest and Portsmouth’s expected 10-point deduction mean that incredibly the Sky Blues could be out of the bottom three by the weekend.
