Michael Mifsud’s move to Barnsley has been resurrected as a loan deal on transfer deadline day, the Maltese striker moving to Oakwell for the rest of the season.

Speaking to the official Barnsley FC website, Mifsud claimed ‘strong La Liga interest’ in his services but added that the chance to play in his favoured attacking role convinced him of the merits of moving to South Yorkshire.

Linked with a £5m move to the Premier League in the immediate after-glow of his goals against Manchester United, Mifsud ultimately flattered to deceive but should always hold a place in the club’s history books for that night at Old Trafford and also the exploits against Blackburn last season.
