James McPake has completed his move to Coventry City ahead of the January transfer deadline, after earlier signing a pre-contract deal with the 24-year-old Scottish defender.

Financial problems at Livingston may have forced their hand with the window about to shut and the Sky Blues now have another signing in the same mould as Kieren Westwood, Danny Fox and Scott Dann, McPake having come from a lower level, with a hunger to succeed and time to do so.

Elliott Ward’s future must now be in doubt over the longer term.

Manager Chris Coleman is clearly a fan of Scott Dann, who he made captain in the summer and Ben Turner also appears to fit his bill in the centre-half position.

McPake leaves Livingston having made well over 100 appearances for the club.

Sky Blues’ fans will be hoping he spends more time on the Ricoh Arena turf than the last man to move from Almonvale.

David McNamee was undoubtedly a talented full-back, but injury problems restricted him to just 31 appearances following his switch south in 2006.
