The expected injection of Middle East money into Leeds United is set to raise the bar in the chase for Coventry City defender Richard Keogh as Elland Road manager Neil Warnock puts together a squad capable of gaining promotion to the Premier League next season.

A ‘substantial’ bid is being prepared for the Ricoh Arena fans favourite, also the subject of interest from Bristol City and Cardiff City this summer.

City have been at pains to stress their intention to keep Keogh at the club but sides such as Leeds and Nottingham Forest, who are also on the brink of being taken over, are operating in a different financial field to the Sky Blues and the chances of Keogh staying in CV6 look slim.

At least the club are in the market for new players as well having signed striker Stephen Elliott at the start of the week. Relegation to League One was always going to signal departures from the club but the lifting of the transfer embargo has provided a chink of light to long-suffering supporters.

***Update***That chink of light got slightly bigger on Wednesday morning as City confirmed that a deal had been struck with the ‘newco’ Rangers FC to sign attacking midfielder John Fleck.
