A potential broken bone in Aron Gunnarson’s leg has left Coventry City desperately searching for midfield reinforcements ahead of a tough series of Championship fixtures, beginning with Tuesday night’s trip to Cardiff City and followed by the visit of the league leaders West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.

The Icelander joins Sammy Clingan on the sidelines for the foreseeable future, leaving the Sky Blues looking to add to the long-term signings of Chris Hussey and Gary Madine, both of which went through on Monday, with some short-term loan cover.

By the time the next international break comes around, over a third of the season will have gone and the pattern for the campaign will have been established.

Battle back for some positive results and City will be looking to maintain a top-half position, anything less and a long, hard winter will be on the cards.
