Hull City took on Coventry City at the KC Stadium on Saturday afternoon in a big game for both sides at opposite ends of the table.

The Tigers, having lost three games in a row prior to the Sky Blues’ visit, needed the points to keep alive their play-off hopes while Andy Thorn’s visitors continued their long quest for an away win to keep the pressure on Bristol City in the relegation battle.

And it was the Sky Blues who break their duck on the road in superb style, getting a stroke of luck with an early own goal before going on to have the better of the exchanges and sealing a crucial three points with Cody McDonald’s assured late finish.

The celebrations among players, supporters and management after the game showed how much the victory meant as City moved out of the relegation zone thanks to Bristol City’s draw with Derby.

Reaction to follow on Vital Coventry.
