Good things about League One!

With Coventry City tasting life in the third tier of English football for the first time in over 40 years (and judging by their slow start to the season set to stay there for a while) Vital Coventry thought we would look on the bright side and highlight some of the good things about League One.

This weekend is a good case in point. While the international break stops the action in the Championship City play on with a live televised game against Stevenage. However bad things have got at the Ricoh in recent years a weekend without a game during the season always drags but, this time around, with England in action on Friday night and the Sky Blues on Sunday there`s plenty to look forward.

Home gates are obviously going to suffer with the lack of local derbies but the chance to visit some different grounds, maybe stand on terraces again and relatively affordable prices has seen large away supports following the City to their two league games to date. Around 2,000 made the trips to Yeovil and Crewe, making up around a third of the attendance and providing good backing for their side.

And let`s be honest, at a basic level, it makes a change from over a decade of drudgery in the Championship. The Sky Blues in all that time never made it to Wembley (or the Millenium Stadium), the League Cup win at Old Trafford providing probably the only game during all that time which will be part of the history books in years to come.

Dropping down a level does allow supporters to think about promotion, reaching the play-offs or getting to Wembley, even if it is only in the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy, before the reality of what may be a lengthy stay in League One kicks in.
