Michael Doyle is close to agreeing a new contract with the Sky Blues to replace his current deal which runs out at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old, signed from Celtic in July 2003, has made 43 appearances for City this season and has been a vital, if unsung presence in the side.

‘My agent has spoken to the club and things are progressing nicely,’ said Doyle.

‘I am happy here and I would like to be a Coventry City player next season.’

Manager Micky Adams added: ‘I’ve stated all along that I want to keep Michael Doyle at the football club.

‘He’s at that age now where he’s been a regular in the team for the last two seasons and he’s progressing nicely.

‘There are aspects of his game that we would like to improve, namely his goalscoring record, but in terms of his energy there is none better in the league.’
