Coventry City aimed to bounce back from consecutive League One losses on Wednesday night when they entertained leaders Tranmere Rovers at the Ricoh Arena.

Whatever the 32,000-seat venue’s shortcomings have been as a home for the Sky Blues they do not include having games postponed as once again the Ricoh staged a match despite bitterly cold temperatures up and down the country.

Ronnie Moore’s side have continued to surprise since starting the season in fine form and went into the game with a four-point cushion over the side in 3rd place but looked anything but league leaders in the opening 45 minutes as a bright and inventive Sky Blues side created a number of good chances and took the lead with Leon Clarke’s smart finish from a Richard Wood knockdown.

The visitors were stronger after the break, aided by some sloppy play from the home side who had goalkeeper Joe Murphy to thank for some brave saves.

Overall, however, City fully deserved their three points with Mark Robins telling the official club website after the game: ‘I’m made up with the win.’
