Cyrus Christie is again being linked with a move away from Coventry City as the transfer window prepares to open again at the start of January with Sunderland the latest club to be associated with the player.

It’s no surprise that plenty of sides are looking at someone who fits the modern template for an attacking full-back almost perfectly, the Sky Blues having turned down a bid from former manager Mark Robins and Huddersfield Town before the end of the summer window, but Christie is not quite the finished article yet.

The Mirror uses the inevitable ‘cash-strapped’ line in its story on a potential move but, short of funds or not, no League One club is likely to be able to reject an approach from a Premier League club for one of their players.

Update Steven Pressley has said that his intention is to keep Christie at the club until at least the end of the season when his contract expires and then accept a compensation package if the player decides to move on.

He told the Coventry Telegraph: “We want him to stay but, ultimately, if he chooses not to stay and there’s a considerable offer on the table then, of course, you have to consider it and then find the right solution to the problem, but that’s football.”
