Scottish star Colin Cameron is hoping that Iain Dowie offers him a new Coventry City contract in the summer as he now looks certain to miss out on the 23 league starts he needed to trigger an extension to his initial one-year deal.

‘I’m playing for a new contract,’ admitted the 34-year-old former Wolves man.

‘But I believe in my ability and my main aim is to get fit and show what I can do, whether that be on the training field, in the reserves or in the first team.

‘I know that if I am fit and playing I can be an asset to this club.

‘I will do everything I can to impress the manager and show him what I can do because I want to be part of things here and hope to be like a new signing for him.’
