Coventry City midfielder Michael Doyle made a surprising switch to Leeds United ahead of the 2009/10 season, the combative Irishman joining the League One side on a season-long loan as the Sky Blues looked to free up some room on their wage bill for new signings.

The 28-year-old looks to have been energised by the change of scene following a number of years in a City shirt and has been a key figure in an excellent start to the season at Elland Road.

His contract at the Ricoh Arena expires in 2011 but Doyle, quoted in the Telegraph & Argus, has said: “I want to stay at Leeds – there are no two ways about it.

Finances will play a part in any future decision and Doyle added: “If we don`t get promoted, I don`t think there will be any chance of me staying.

“Hopefully at the end of the season the manager will come to me and say ‘we want to keep you` but that`s a long way off and I am sure it is a long way from his thoughts at the moment.’
