Another Saturday, another defeat for Ipswich Town, whose miserable start to the season began at the Ricoh Arena back in August and who are yet to record a win in the league this season.

After conceding at the death against Sheffield United in midweek there was more late agony for the Blues in South Yorkshire when Barnsley struck a last-gasp winner to increase the pressure on Roy Keane, whose post-match interviews hinted at an imminent departure.

If that was to be the case, the ambitious Suffolk club are reportedly ready to turn to former England boss Steve McClaren.

Pilloried after the national team’s Euro 2008 failure, McClaren has rebuilt his career and reputation with FC Twente of Holland over the past year.
