Coventry City captain Carl Baker was a fine ambassador for the club on the pitch last season, his look of utter despair at the end of the JPT game against Crewe at the Ricoh Arena summing up the feelings of most fans.

He also notched up plenty of goals and assists during the campaign and is keen to do even better this time around.

Confirming that he has stayed away from alcohol during the close season in a bid to come back for training in good shape, Baker told the Coventry Telegraph: ‘I want a promotion and I am not going to beat about the bush with any excuses, we need to get promoted this year.

‘Never mind all the off-field problems, at the end of the day we need to get back up to the Championship which is our main aim.’
