Two home league games, two trips to South Yorkshire and at least one League Cup fixture make up the opening month of the season for Coventry City.

The big kick-off comes on August 9th against Norwich City at the Ricoh Arena.

Glenn Roeder is set to be busy in the transfer market right up until the opening day and Norwich are likely to be a much-changed outfit from last season, especially given the departure of former Sky Blues Darren Huckerby and Dion Dublin.

A week later and it’s a trip to Barnsley, scene of a 4-1 win for City on the opening day of last season.

The Tykes are fast becoming favoured opponents for the Sky Blues having shipped 12 goals in the last 3 meetings between the clubs.

Bristol City on the other hand have happy recent memories of playing against Coventry, especially at the Ricoh Arena where they have scored comprehensive wins in both league and cup over the past couple of seasons.

The month ends with a first visit to Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium as newly-promoted Rovers aim to make their mark on the Championship.

Last season’s League Cup provided plenty of memories (and money) for the club.

This season’s campaign begins with a home tie against Aldershot, back in the Football League after a lengthy absence and looking to make an immediate mark with a giant-killing.
