Andy Thorn will run the rule over a number of experienced first team players in Tuesday’s reserve friendly against Shrewsbury and, together with the signing of Cody McDonald last week, has options up front for the first time this season as he ponders his side for Saturday’s game against Derby County.

While McDonald may be kept under wraps in order to ease the pressure on him as the club’s only outfield signing of the window, Gary McSheffrey and Clive Platt will play against the Shrews.

‘Cody coming in has given us all a lift,’ Thorn told the Telegraph.

James McPake and Nathan Cameron will also play in the reserve team clash.
