Another Tale Of 2-1, City

Coventry City have had plenty of reasons to feel hard done by after some of their defeats at the Ricoh Arena this season but another reverse on Saturday was well deserved as Swindon Town got a late reward for a 90 minutes in which they were well in control.

Having almost conceded within the opening minute the Sky Blues zipped to the other end and opened the scoring through Franck Moussa. For a side who enjoy playing away from home that should have been the queue for the hosts to soak up pressure and hit Swindon on the break.

Two things conspired against them, however, as centre-halves Martin and Cameron suffered a nightmare afternoon while City’s passing and ability to keep the ball disappeared.

Swindon should have levelled on a number of occasions but the key moment of the game came midway through the second-half when Leon Clarke’s header almost made it 2-0.

‘Playing nice football doesn’t always win you matches,’ said Town’s newly-appointed manager Kevin MacDonald.

‘It takes all sorts of things to win football matches, but we were able to hang on in there and get the right result. The big thing for me was when young Wes (Foderingham) made the save from the chance that would have made it 2-0.

‘I don’t think you will see a better save in any division this weekend and had it been 2-0 it might have been too much of an uphill task for us.’

Just when it looked that City had got away with it they conceded two goals well in keeping with the afternoon.

‘I think we got what we deserved,’ admitted Lee Carsley. ‘After a great start we were below par in too many crucial parts of the pitch.

‘I felt we were second best at times and that has nothing to do with tactics, technique or the pitch, it was just the mentality to win the personal battles.’
