The transfer window opens again at the start of next month but with Coventry’s finances still precarious, manager Micky Adams is set to stick with his current squad.

He said after the 1-0 win at QPR on Monday night: ‘People have got to understand that this club has been through the mill financially.

‘I am not one of those managers that is always going to the chairman and looking for players.

‘If I have to work with what I have got here then that is what I will do.’

Some of the squad players that Adams may call on in the busy festive period were in action in last night’s 3-1 reserve team over Crystal Palace at Butlin Road, Rugby.

Kevin Thornton scored twice while Stern John was also on the mark in his first game back from a three-month loan spell at Derby County.
