Coventry City manager Micky Adams made no attempt to dress up his side’s 3-1 Carling Cup defeat at Hereford United on Tuesday as anything other than a shambles.

‘I am not going to defend the indefensible. We were not good enough and we got what we deserved – nothing. I would just like to apologise to our supporters,’ he said.

‘All credit to Hereford, they have caused us problems.

‘Our pace in the first half was quite good, but we were never really at the races.’

Hat-trick hero Stuart Fleetwood earned praise from both bosses for his performance, with Hereford supremo Graham Turner adding: Stuart has got a great attitude and he has got his just desserts here tonight.

‘He enjoyed the back end of last season after he came here and when he has had his chances, he has done well.’
