The Sky Blues missed a golden chance to move within six points of next week’s opponents Preston North End after a woeful defensive display against the division’s bottom club.

‘We can only apologise to the fans for our away results and I think I know why it is happening,’ said manager Micky Adams after the game.

‘The players understand my thoughts but I am not going to air them in public.’

The result ends a great run of form for City and Adams added: ‘I am not going to have a go at the players because they have been excellent for this club.

‘They’ve got the club out of the doldrums.’
