A small step for the Sky Blues

Coventry City go into the final two games of the Championship season having secured their league status and ensured themselves of a worry-free last day next Sunday, a stark contrast to last season’s nail-biting finale at The Valley.

It’s a small step but a positive one. The Sky Blues squad is leaner and hungrier than a year ago, built around a core of players such as Kieren Westwood, Scott Dann, Daniel Fox and Aron Gunnarsson from whom the best is yet to come.

Chairman and manager are singing from the same hymn sheet and will add to the squad in the summer with a similar kind of player to build for what everyone hopes will be a push for the play-offs next season.

Ray Ranson is right to highlight the improvements made to the club’s training ground and also the improved financial situation at a time when a host of clubs are facing up to tough times economically.

There’s a long way to go of course but for the first time in many a year, City are following a plan, biding their time and taking small but positive steps.
