50 days to the window but City look to go sooner

In 50 days time, the transfer window will open once again for permanent deals, sparking a 31-day rush for the missing piece of the jigsaw up and down the country.

Coventry City fully intend to be among the clubs making signings, but may move sooner if they can prise away some of their top targets on loan prior to January.

Richard Wood of Sheffield Wednesday and former star Gary McSheffrey are the two names in the frame at this early stage, as Chris Coleman and Ray Ranson look to put the pressure on some of those currently at the Ricoh Arena, whose inconsistency has had the manager tearing his hair out.

‘We can’t buy anyone until January but we have got the option to take loans with a view to making them permanent signings,’ chairman Ranson told the Coventry Telegraph.

‘We have been taking stock, as we have done since we came in and we will be looking at our target list, the positions the manager wants to strengthen and the players available in those positions.’

Freeing up funds for new signings will help of course and City will be pleased that Kevin Kyle has agreed a further two-month loan with Hartlepool United, keeping him in the shop window ahead of January.

‘The input and impact Kevin had in a relatively short period of time he was here was tremendous,’ said ‘Pool manager Danny Wilson.

‘He helped us back to winning ways – you need that bit of strength and stability up front he brings.’

‘I’m delighted and grateful that Kevin wants to come back here.’
