Plymouth Argyle’s Belgian international striker Emile Mpenza could make his first start for the Pilgrims against Coventry City on Saturday.

The former Manchester City man has gradually been building up his match fitness since joining the Pilgrims and made a big impact as a substitute against Charlton Athletic last weekend, scoring a late equaliser.

He comes into the reckoning for the game at the Ricoh Arena as Plymouth loan star Paul Gallagher is suspended.

‘It is a blow, but it gives somebody else an opportunity,’ manager Paul Sturrock told the Plymouth Herald.

‘The essence of life now is to make sure Gall doesn’t play a game until the end of the season.

‘It’s that kind of scenario.’

Sturrock added: ‘If Emile does get to play (against Coventry) he has waited his chance for a long time.’
