Leon Best’s excellent start to the new season has alerted clubs to the fact that the striker’s Coventry City contract will expire in the summer, although talks are under way over a new deal for the Republic of Ireland man.

Eire boss Giovanni Trapattoni looks to be a fan of the player and one of the Italian’s predecessors in the job, Mick McCarthy reportedly rates Best as well.

With Wolves looking to add more firepower to their ranks, a £1.5m bid for Best in January is being mooted.

Now 23, the forward moved to the Ricoh Arena in the summer of 2007 and has scored 16 league goals in 76 games (56 starts).
