Sol Campbell has a couple of months to kill before he can join a Premier League club and the 35-year-old defender is reportedly seeking Football League dispensation to play on loan in the Championship in a bid to be match-fit for any potential new club.

The ex-England man walked out on a 5-year Notts County contract after the closure of the transfer window, declaring that the ambitious League Two side had gone back on promises made to him when he signed.

West Brom, who come to the Ricoh Arena to face the Sky Blues on 24 October, are being mooted as a short-term destination for the one-time Tottenham and Arsenal centre-half.

Whether any Championship club would consider a deal however for a player with only one competitive game under his belt this season and who then wants to move back to the Premier League in January remains to be seen.
