Vital Coventry member ‘Dave Bennett’ contacted us with his thoughts on season ticket prices.

He said: ‘The recent announcement by the Sky Blues of their season ticket and matchday prices for the 2008/09 season has clearly drawn a dividing line between the regular and casual fan of the club.

‘The club deserve praise looking to reward those fans who have stuck by them during the last two seasons, freezing the majority of season ticket prices and allowing people the chance to watch games next season for a price equivalent to £12.86 per game.

‘That, combined with the interest free payment plan adds up to good value in the current game no matter how you look at it.

‘Cultivating season ticket holders is the only way forward for a club such as City and small measures such as the credit loaded onto the new cashless cards, the scarf, Jimmy`s bar, irrelevant-looking as they are, go some way to making loyal fans feel valued.

‘In contrast, an adult ticket purchased less than three hours before a game next season will cost £26.

‘This has led some to talk of the casual fan being scared off, but City simply don`t have enough such fans floating about to go about it any other way. Even when there has been heavy promotion of games or special offers this season, crowds have come nowhere near to those achieved at Leicester for example.

‘As always, it comes down to success on the pitch. Keeping season ticket prices relatively low rewards the fans who put their money where their mouths are, regardless almost of how the campaign pans out.

‘Put a successful team out on the park and casual fans will turn up whatever the price.’
