Steven Pressley will not offer new Coventry City contracts to Richard Wood, Nathan Cameron, Stephen Elliott, Jordan Stewart and Danny Philliskirk.

Wood leaves the Ricoh Arena after making over 100 appearances for the Sky Blues and was consistently a wholehearted performer when wearing the shirt.

Cameron departs without having lived up to his early promise while Elliott pays the price for a season blighted by injuries.

Stewart and Philliskirk were on short-term deals with the club.

Pressley said: “We need to refresh and re-invigorate the squad so tough decisions have to be made but I would personally like to thank all of the players for their efforts during my time here and I wish them the very best for the future.”

***Updated***Wood spoke to the Coventry Telegraph on Wednesday and said: “I can’t fault the club and how it has treated me. The fans have treated me well too, and I have had no problems whatsoever and got no arguments or regrets about my time here because it`s been good.”

  • In a different financial climate then Wood and Elliott would have been good to have as part of next season’s squad but new deals probably can’t be justified given the general situation and the club’s specific problems.

  • Now on to the rest of the players that Pressley doesn’t see as part of his plans. Will clubs come in for them? If not are we in a position to pay them up?
