Battling hard with Coventry City, Blackburn Rovers and QPR for the most nightmarish 2012/13 season, Wolverhampton Wanderers will be in League One come August after falling through two divisions in as many years.

Dean Saunders, appointed to keep the Molineux men in the division after Stale Solbakken’s sacking, saw his new club drop out of the Championship on Saturday, waving briefly to former side Doncaster Rovers as they moved in the opposite direction.

Wolves’ woe at least provides Coventry City with a tasty local derby next season (very local if the Sky Blues end up playing at Walsall) and one that would attract a 20,000+ crowd if we do remain at the Ricoh.

A speculative piece in the Coventry Telegraph on a slow Bank Holiday weekend suggested that over 90% of supporters would not buy season tickets to follow City outside of the, er, city, but as many comments on the story pointed out the poll was not of current season ticket holders.

The head says that the Ricoh Arena remains the only viable option for the club, whoever its owners.
