Wide open race to succeed Coleman

No obvious contender leaps out to succeed Chris Coleman as Coventry City manager and that is reflected in the early odds priced up on Tuesday following the Welshman’s sacking.

Initial reports had Gary McAllister installed as the favourite but he has since drifted in the betting.

Solid managerial names currently out of work such as Tony Mowbray and Alan Curbishley feature prominently while from the lower divisions, Paul Tisdale (Exeter City), Eddie Howe (Bournemouth) and Keith Hill (Rochdale) are seen as being able to make the step up.

Former players in the market alongside McAllister include Dion Dublin, Liam Daish and Dean Holdsworth.

A touch of the exotic meanwhile is supplied by the name of Slaven Bilic, a 25/1 shot to swap Croatia for Coventry according to the early odds.
