Micky Adams has told Andy Whing that he needs to turn in a top performance against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday in order to keep his place in the side.

David McNamee’s suspension hands Whingy his chance at right-back but the Coventry City boss warned: ‘There are flaws in his game – whether they be physical or mental – that he needs to improve upon, and he knows that.

‘I am looking for consistency from Andrew Whing and if we can get that then he has got all the attributes to be a player here.

‘But it is a real problem for him.

‘That is not being too critical of him because on his day he is as good as there is in the league.

‘But there are times when he needs to concentrate more and work at his defending.’
